Transaction Sales Tax is currently disabled by preferences.

Enable sales tax in QuickBooks

Problem

You have an order with sales tax and you are trying to apply tax, but QuickBooks has tax disabled.

Description

Your sales tax is disabled in QuickBooks and your Connex log shows this error:

There is an invalid reference to QuickBooks ItemSalesTax "SalesTax" in the SalesReceipt. QuickBooks error message: Transaction Sales Tax is currently disabled by preferences.    

Solution

Turn on Sales Tax in the QuickBooks Company File

Here are the steps:

  1. Open QuickBooks with the correct company file
  2. Click the Edit menu and then Preferences
  3. From the left vertical tool bar, select Sales Tax
  4. Click the Company Preferences tab
  5. Select Yes in the DO YOU CHARGE SALES TAX field.
  6. Make sure there is a MOST COMMON SALES TAX entry called out of state:
  7. If you are asked to make a code, enter out of state with a tax rate of 0%.
  8. Click OK. 
  9. Resync your sale.
