What version of QuickBooks is right for me?
Many customers will ask us for our recommendations regarding which version of QuickBooks is right for them and/or when to use a specific version of QuickBooks.

Is QuickBooks Online right for me?
QuickBooks Online is a powerful, cloud-based accounting solution ideal for solo-preneaur's and small businesses. It is especially useful for start-ups and organization's with distributed teams, as QuickBooks Online is easy to access from anywhere in the world, 24/7 - all you need is an internet connection.
In addition, being cloud-based, QuickBooks Online offers an easy-to-use application marketplace allowing for near-infinite customization for a wide variety of use cases.
However, it lacks many of the robust inventory management features of desktop versions of QuickBooks. Furthermore, with QuickBooks Online, you don't have direct access to your company file; whereas with desktop versions of QuickBooks, the database file you have direct control over and can store, save, backup, etc. however you wish.
Is QuickBooks desktop right for me?
Desktop versions of QuickBooks offer the same powerful accounting tools, but with built-in scalability. QuickBooks Desktop is great for small-to-medium-sized businesses that are growing rapidly and require more functionality and stronger reporting tools that what QuickBooks Online currently offers. In addition, desktop versions of QuickBooks offer better inventory management features, making desktop QuickBooks ideal for those use cases in which you're tracking the manufacture of physical goods.
In effect, think of QuickBooks desktop as a stepping stone on your way to an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution.
The drawbacks to desktop versions of QuickBooks involve being much harder to integrate with third-party solutions. Furthermore, QuickBooks is more difficult to manage with a distributed team and would require hosting via a third-party server. Finally, QuickBooks desktop does not work with MAC or Apple devices.
